Thanks to everyone who attended our last meeting and to those who sent their apologies We discussed a wide range of issues affecting the immediate and long-term future of Oldham Theatre Workshop. We acknowledged the sterling efforts of all who took part in the last campaign to save OTW from the latest threat of cuts but also recognised that we cannot continue to rely on good will to secure the future of OTW. SO What can a FRIENDS organisation do? Immediately, and most importantly we need to try to fill Oldham Coliseum for the forthcoming production of ALICE at the end of July. The two musical theatre productions that OTW stages every year are the most vulnerable to any future cuts. One way to ensure their survival is to prove that they are commercially viable, in other words - that they can pay for themselves. So please can you tell everyone you know – and a whole bunch of people that you don’t know too! – to buy up the tickets from the Coliseum box office. Spread the word, invite your whole street, workplace, school and football team NOW. All other suggestions, schemes, cunning plans etc. please email to friends@oldhamtheatreworkshop.com and we will try our best to put as many into action as possible. Some suggestions from the meeting are already being looked at … thank you Meanwhile the pressing matter of the Ruby Slippers Ball was also discussed along with its funding shortfall. Again we discussed various ways of attracting sponsorship and funding and I’m pleased to say that, due to the fantastic efforts of Martyn, the future looks bright and Ruby-coloured as far as this celebration is concerned. He has also possibly secured some excellent funding for the ALICE production programme. More soon C.
